If you are an internationally qualified nurse or midwife (IQNM), you will need to complete the Self-check to determine the Stream that is assigned to you based on your qualifications. IQNMs who hold a qualification that is relevant to the profession, but is not substantially equivalent, must undergo Stream B, which is Outcomes-based Assessment (OBA). Stream B candidates must successfully complete the MCQ exam (NCLEX-RN) once they have completed Orientation Part 1 and Portfolio.
NCLEX-RN: The NCLEX-RN Exam is a multiple-choice question assessment that determines the candidate's professional knowledge and is administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and is conducted at Pearson VUE test centers in various countries. The MCQ exam must be passed before candidates can proceed to the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE).
OSCE: The Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) evaluates the knowledge, skills, and competence of graduate-level nurses or midwives. The OSCE is an in-person clinical assessment that is conducted in a clinical simulation setting to ensure that IQNMs can meet Australia's expected standard of practice. This measure is crucial for public safety and ensures a thorough evaluation of clinical skills based on evidence.

- Self-Check: Checking your Academic Qualification.
- Complete Orientation Part 1.
- Create an Online Account in AHPRA & upload your supporting Academic Documents & Pay the AHPRA fee of AUD 640.00.
- Get a referral of OBA from AHPRA. The OBA is a two-stage assessment process: a multiple- choice exam (MCQ) & an Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE). IQNMs must pass the first stage before moving to the next step.
- For MCQ (NCLEX) examination, apply “Authorization to Test” (ATT) to AHPRA.
- Receive ATT from AHPRA.
- Book MCQ (NCLEX) examination through Pearson Vue MCQ fee is around US $ 350.00.
- Pass OSCE: OSCE fee is AUD 4,000.00.
- Complete Orientation Part 2.
- Apply RN with all supporting documents.
- Get the RN application approved.

The Nursing Council of New Zealand regulates nursing practice and education, ensuring that safe, competent, and ethical care is provided to patients. All nurses who wish to work in New Zealand must be registered with the council.
Those candidates who hold a nursing qualification that is equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification and meet the English language proficiency requirements can submit an application to NCNZ. Once your nursing qualification and registration are deemed to be equivalent to those in New Zealand, you need to complete Competency Assessment Program (CAP). After completing CAP, you can apply for registration with the NCNZ and become eligible to work as a nurses in NZ.
